Week 1 - Concept and Proposal
This week, we spent most of the time trying to flesh out our game proposal as much as possible. We've decided to make a metroidvania platformer game inspired from titles like Hollow Knight, Ori and the Blind Forest, and Super Metroid. We needed a way to differentiate our game from other popular titles and came up with what we think is an interesting twist - you play as the weapon instead of a humanoid character. In the game, you're able to possess the corpses of enemies you defeat, to wield you and progress through the game. We met up to go over some early design considerations and tried to answer as many questions as we could on paper to best prepare us when prototyping. We also decided which software to use and some general scope decisions in regards to game aesthetic, minimum viable product, and whether to use 3D or 2D art assets.

Going forward, we plan to begin prototyping as soon as possible. The team is relatively inexperienced with coding in Unity, so it will be important to find out how slow our development process will be. If we find that a lot of our ideas are out of scope, we'll need to reassess how the game can still work without being able to do everything we want. We'll continue having design meetings to further flesh out game mechanics, narrative decisions, and systems design. It will also be important to start finalizing visual design choices for the characters and setting so we can begin generating art and animation.
